Sanssouci
Sanssouci is located in Potsdam, near Berlin. Both the palace and the garden were built to serve as a place for relaxation far away from official Berlin court. Even the name, a French phase (sans souci), which could be translated as "without concerns", confirms this intention.

The garden was originally created in Baroque style, but at present there is only a little left from this period. Terraces of the vineyard, attached directly to the palace were built as the first part of today's park, in 1744 by Frederick the Great. Such a solution is rarely to be found but not the only once. The similar project was finished almost simultaneously in another German garden at Kamp-Lintfort.

The palace on the hill was built one year later. In the following years the ornamental garden at bottom of terraces was also created.

Important and at the same time characteristic features of this park are its fountains. The largest of them, Great Fountain (created in 1748), is located in front of the Palace, at the bottom of terraces.
At the beginning there were problems with supporting fountains with water. It was solved only app. 100 years later with the implementation of steam power.

In the first half of XIX century a famous architecture Peter Joseph Lenne contributed heavily to the present splendor of this garden by enlarging and redesigning it into the landscape park. The biggest challenge was to connect smoothly the old Baroque part with newly designed and totally different in style, the landscape part.

The new main avenue from the Obelisk to the New Palace (2,5 km long) was built.

In the subsequent years, the Charlottenhof palace was built for the wish of then owner and a few years later Roman Baths, located in the south part of the park.

Another characteristic features of this park are statues, which can be found all over the park, especially along the main avenue.

There are also other interested places which can be found in this park, like Chinese House, Hippodrome or Obelisk.
